So now the 2012 is here and time to plan for future gardens. We would like to thank our loyal customers for a good year once again. It is because of you that we are still around and hope to be around for many years to come. I have updated the website with our new varieties of 2012! We do not sell the plants through the internet but we have many of the plants at Honeymoon Acres located on Hwy 57 just north of New Holstein.

85 days. Cynara scolymus. Perennial. Plant produces good yields of flavorful bronze and purple artichokes. This is an Italian heirloom variety.

Asparagus

Mary Washington

HEIRLOOM. As asparaguses are perennial vegetables, you just plant them once and to enjoy season after season of succulent spears. The graceful, feathery green foliage remains attractive long after harvest. In 2 years, you’ll have light cuttings, with regular cuttings thereafter. Start seeds indoors in early spring; transplant seedlings to garden in May. Full or partial sun.

Blue Lake Bush

We succeeded in boosting the flavor and tenderness of an all-time favorite bean. Virtually fiber-free, ‘Blue Lake 274’ tastes great, produces prolifically over a long season, and is excellent fresh or frozen. The upright, medium-thick pods are plump, tasty and at their flavorful peak when 6" long. Pick daily to enjoy a bountiful and extended harvest. No trellis or poles are required for this bush type bean. Full sun.

Bulls Blood

HEIRLOOM. Bull's Blood has the reddest foliage we have ever seen. The earliest thinnings spark up spring and fall salads with a leaf color as richly dark red as radicchio. As the roots enlarge, the baby beets are also delicious cooked and mixed with salad. The small sweet red roots are best when harvested young. When sowing, mix beet seeds with fast-sprouting radish seeds to mark the rows. Grows best in cool weather and full sun.

Packman

Packman isn't playing around -- you'll get enormous yields of giant 8-inch heads from these vigorous plants, plus plenty of smaller heads from robust side-shoot production! The delicious medium-to-small beads are densely-set on these domed heads, which extend above the foliage on the plant -- the easiest ever to harvest! But the best thing about Packman Hybrid is its ability to withstand heat. If you live in a warm area -- or just run a little late getting out your spring crop -- Packman is the broccoli you need!

Burpee Hybrid

Our classic hybrid with a well-deserved reputation for outstanding flavor. Slightly oval fruits are ribbed, heavily netted, and measure 7" long, 6" across and weigh 4½ lbs. each. Flesh is deep Orange, thick, firm and juicy. Burpee bred.

Hales Best Jumbo

This muskmelon became widely popular because it combined excellent flavor with earliness. Hale's Best is a beautiful oval melon deep green skin with Golden netting. The flesh is an appealing salmon color, aromatic and sweet.

Carrot

Rainbow Mix

Unique hybrid is a single variety that produces cylindrical carrots in a range of colors, including yellow, white, light orange, dark orange, purple (not shown) and coral. High sugar content assures a distinctive flavor. 7 to 8-in. (18 to 20-cm) roots and 12 to 14-in. (30 to 35-cm) tops. 70 days to maturity.

Veronica Romanesco

Eye-catching lime-green carnival is an “Italian” romanesco type that holds its brilliant color even when cooked. The perfectly spiraled and very symmetrical heads have tightly beaded, pointed domes with a milder, sweeter flavor than standard cauliflower. It’s terrific used raw, cooked or pickled. harvest the heads when small for the best flavor. Excellent heat tolerance and is best as a Fall crop.

Plant produces jumbo size celery. This variety is easy to blanch. A dozen stalks trimmed for market weight 10 to 15 lbs. Suitable for home garden or market growers.

Plant produces excellent quality white bulbs. Excellent in Hungarian chicken soups and other dishes. Plant in spring and fall. Disease Resistant: Black Rot. Best to harvest when bulbs are 4" across.

60 days. Brassica oleracea. Plant produces giant 10" diameter bulbs.This variety remains tender and sweet when large unlike other giant kohlrabi. Does well during dry season because of large root system. A variety from Switzerland.

Leeks

American Flag

 A very popular leek with gardeners for years. The stems are long, white and thick and the foliage is medium green. Very dependable for fall and summer use.

Lettuce

Romaine

The thick ribs, especially on the older outer leaves, should have a milky fluid which gives the romaine the typically fine-bitter herb taste.



Gourmet Blend

Plant produces flavorful mixture of gourmet leaf lettuce. A special blend of light green, dark green, and red lettuce. Excellent for salads and garnishes.

Buttercrunch

Plant produces flavorful medium green color leaf lettuce. The leaves are crumpled with curled outer leaf. Very attractive. One of the slowest bolting and earliest growing varieties on the market. Excellent for salads and garnishes.

Black Seeded Simpson

45 days. Hugely popular for over 150 years, it's one of the most tender and delicately flavored leaf lettuces ever bred. The ruffled leaves are large with an appealing green color. 'Simpson' is well adapted to a wide range of climates and is still the best for early spring sowing.

 Plant produces high yields of flavorful medium green okra. Leaves are spineless making it easier to harvest. Taller and more open than the Clemson Spineless Okra. Best if picked when 3" long. Used for soups, stews, and meats dishes.

Plant produces a extra large white onions with light brown skin. Onions are sweet and very mild. Very cold hardy.

Plant produces beautiful 4" wide red onions. Onion has a mild sweet flavor. Excellent slicing variety.

Candy

Plant produces jumbo size white onions. Onions are sweet, mild, and can be successfully grown in North, East, South, Midwest, and West. Outside they are small-necked, with a beautiful golden-brown color, and inside they are large, thick rings with mostly single centers. A good keeper when cured. Excellent for home garden and market growers.

Yellow Sweet Spanish

Plant produces extra jumbo size white onions. Bulbs are very mild and have golden brown skin. One of the most popular onion grown by home gardeners and market growers.

Mr. Potato

 Good yielder produces round-oval potatoes with cream white flesh and shallow eyes. All-purpose potatoes make good bakers. Tubers are blocky and slightly flat. Medium-early maturing with excellent storage. Plant produces white flowers withy slight reddish-purple twinge. 110 days to maturity.

Pumpkin

Autumn Gold

Plant produces good yields of 10 lb bright orange pumpkins. They have a round shape and good handles. Can be used for carving, cooking, or for the seeds.

First Prize

The size of this pumpkin will range from 50 lbs. to a whopping 150 lbs. with color superior to Atlantic types. This will be a great addition for those who want the biggest and best.

Howden's Field

Withstands heat better than other varieties and produces long green stalks and crinkled leaves when ready for harvest. Plant in full sun and water every other day. This spinach has a sweet, non-bitter taste raw or cooked.

Squash

Black Beauty (Zucchini)

Bush type plant produces high yields of straight dark green zucchini squash. The outer surface is very smooth. Besy when harvested when squash is 8" long. This is an improved variety over the old Black Zucchini. Try dipping blossoms in a bear batter and deep fry for a treat. A summer squash variety. Bush type plant is suitable for smaller gardens.

Sweet Mama (Buttercup)
